I grew up along the banks of the AuSable River, just east of Grayling, Michigan, where nature and the outdoors have played a major role in shaping my work.
I attended Ferris State University to study commercial art before graduating from Central Michigan University with a teaching degree in history and art. Since retiring from teaching in 2004, I have continued to pursue my work through classes at Kirtland Community College.
While oil is my preferred medium, I also work in charcoal and graphite. My style is often described as photo-realism, with a focus on achieving a high level of detail through careful attention to shape, proportion, tone, value, and hue.
Rather than focusing on interpretation or message, my goal is to capture a specific moment in time and showcase technical precision.
For the past twenty years, I have also etched black granite cemetery memorials, allowing me to combine my appreciation for nature with meaningful subject matter.
